Desolation Sound is an amazing, isolated area on BC's inner coast that is a sea kayakers' delight to paddle. Captain George Vancouver sailed into this remote area in 1792 on his surveying quest of the inner coast. From the ocean floor the Coast Mountains reach into the sky well above the average cloud line of an overcast day. The day Captain Vancouver arrived here it was overcast, and as he plied the waters he made notes that he saw no signs of natives. This combined with the Captain's foul mood prompted him to name the area Desolation Sound. This was a colossal mistake that he, of course would never know, because Desolation Sound gets tremendous sunshine and warmth in the summer as is a sea kayakers dream destination. In a word - Paradise!
